Understanding OCPP Cloud Integration
The standard protocol driving open, scalable, and secure commercial EV charging networks worldwide.
The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an open-source communication standard that links hardware-based commercial EV chargers to software-based Central Management Systems (CSMS) in the cloud. By establishing a unified language, OCPP eliminates vendor lock-in, enabling EV charging operators to mix and match hardware from manufacturers like Suzhou HizonSun Tech Co., Ltd. with any compliant cloud backend.
Whether deploying an AC EV charger network for workplaces or a high-power DC fast charging pile setup for highway transit, implementing OCPP 1.6J or OCPP 2.0.1 cloud management is vital. It enables operators to authorize users, monitor transactions, enforce security, and run real-time diagnostics remotely.
Through OCPP cloud integration, operators gain access to advanced smart-charging capabilities. This includes dynamic load balancing, peak shaving, and seamless integration with third-party billing engines. Together, these features ensure optimal grid compatibility and maximum return on investment.

Read MoreHow to Integrate OCPP with Commercial EV Chargers
A step-by-step developer and network engineer's guide to establishing secure cloud-to-hardware communication.
1. Network & Connectivity
Ensure the charger has a stable connection to the internet. HizonSun chargers support 4G/5G LTE cellular, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet (RJ45). A reliable network path is vital for maintaining connection to the OCPP central system.
2. Endpoint Configuration
Access the charger's local web configuration portal. Input the target WebSocket URL (WS or WSS) provided by your cloud management software. Format: wss://your-cloud-backend.com/ocpp/charger-id.
3. Handshake & Security
Configure security profiles. For commercial operations, TLS (WSS) is mandatory to encrypt telemetry and billing data. Utilize basic authentication credentials or client-side certificates for device validation.
4. Boot Notification
Once powered, the charger sends a BootNotification message. The cloud backend responds with acceptance and synchronizes time. This confirms that the software handshake is complete.
5. Transaction Testing
Validate core OCPP flow messages: Authorize, StartTransaction, MeterValues, and StopTransaction. Ensure the cloud system accurately records power output and processes payments.
6. Smart Charging Setup
Set up profiles for dynamic load balancing. Configure the charger to accept remote power limits (SetChargingProfile) to protect grid infrastructure during high-demand periods.
